G W Anderson

Description

George Andersen (1881-) was born to Nils and Anne Anderson, who emigrated to New Zealand in 1872. He was a freelance, itinerant photographer, travelling around the central area of the North Island. He also worked in the United States of America and Palmerston North . He retired to Thames. His photographs largely captured ordinary life in small towns. His brother Harold was also an artist and photographer and ran a photographic studio in Palmerston North. This photograph, labelled in George's handwriting, 'A Well-known Photographer', is apparently a parodic self-portrait.
