This photograph was originally entitled “Ploughing Swamp Lands for the First Time” and must have been photographed at either Fitzherbert or Longburn. Pictured are: Earnest Beale (left); Bruce Beale; unknown; Albert Beale, the three sons of Joseph Beale. Mr Joseph Beale was a well-known farmer in the Palmerston North district during the 1880s and 1890s, including being connected to the Longburn Freezing Works.
