A group of about thirty soldiers practise different techniques for carrying wounded colleagues within the confines of a narrow trench. It was probably taken at the Awapuni Racecourse, which was home to one of New Zealand’s largest training camps in World War One, and was the sole location for training the New Zealand Medical Corps. staff.
