This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 04 August 1961 "The first of its kind in Palmerston North, a mobile play centre van is being prepare to demonstrate play-centre work in the Central North Island. The van has been loaned to the Play Centre Association in Palmerston North by the Regional Council of Adult Education. Five experienced members of the association will travel with the van to give the children of the districts visited the benefit of the numerous children's play things available, and the members will then instruct the parents in the evening so they can form their own play centres. Seen today loading the van are (from the left): The secretary of the association (Mrs. A. Bertram), the equipment officer (Mrs. J. Ward), the driver of the van (Mr. G.B. Bertram) and the publicity officer (Mrs. N. Lundy)."
