More Info →- Description
-
Manawatū Polytechnic in the former Palmerston North Technical High School Building. Palmerston North Technical School was opened on 29 September 1909, corner of King Street and Duke (now Princess) Street. In 1931 the gables were removed, giving the building the appearance it has now. In 1956 the school, which was Queen Elizabeth Technical College by that stage, moved to Rangitikei Street. That same year the Palmerston North Teachers College was established and occupied the Princess Street buiding. They would remain in that location until 1971 when stages 1 and 2 of the new College in Centennial Drive were completed. On February 9, 1971 the Palmerston North Technical Institute began classes in the building. The interior was converted to suit the needs of the new institute. This building is now used by the Universal College of Learning (UCOL). [2020]
