This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 12 August, 1959. "Seen directing the flow of motor-vehicles in Featherston Street after yesterday's Rugby match is Miss H. Thorn, a woman traffic officer attached to the Transport Department. It was the first time a women has done point duty in heavy traffic in New Zealand."
