This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 28th December 1965 "Equipped with goggles, Garth Raikes of Foxton Beach, gives a cheery wave as he battles through driving sand. A strong gale coming off the sea whipped the sand into miniature sandstorms, but Garth had the practical answer and was out enjoying himself."
