More Info →- Description
-
Massey University main entrance is bottom centre between the trees off Old West Road. Following the entrance way around, the square to the left in the trees is the original University Swimming Pool, straight ahead is the Main Lecture rooms, which had another floor added in 1947 by utilising the attic space. The 1st semi-circular area to the left is the original student accommodations building used up til 1959 and known as the pink hostel. During the second world war the army utilised these buildings as an officer training school. The second semi-circular area (left mid to top of photograph) shows the army's pre-fabricated huts, which were also used as student accommodation. Wharerata (the large house far right of this photograph) was acquired in 1951 and currently used for the purposes of a staff cafeteria and function centre. See also Research File A 175/ 402 & 387.
