This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 26 December 1962, "The two kittens the Manawatu-Oroua S.P.C.A. inspector (Mr R. H. James) is holding, together with six others, have been found homes as a result of the publicity received on Saturday about their abandonment. Mr James was inundated with calls. On Monday the baskets in the background were empty."
