Nuwyne Te Awe Awe Mohi, the kaikaranga stands next to Warren Warbrick (Te Awe Awe) who is playing a pūtatara - a traditional trumpet at the start of a ceremony to raise flags on Waitangi Day in Te Marae o Hine (The Square), Palmerston North. Seen in the distance - city councillors (from left) Brent Barrett, Renee Dingwall, Rachel Bowen, Lorna Johnson, and to the far right, Mayor Grant Smith.
The ceremony began at 9am and included speeches by Wiremu Kingi Te Awe Awe, Grant Smith - Mayor of Palmerston North, and Hon Iain Lees-Galloway - MP for Palmerston North. The flags raised were the bright red Tanenuiarangi, flanked by the Palmerston North City Council and New Zealand flags.
