Phoenix House was officially opened on 29 May 1976, by the Mayor of Palmerston North, Brian Elwood. The building was owned by Provident Life, which joined the Phoenix Group of Companies in 1961. The 8-storey building, which cost over $1 million, was built by Street Construction Ltd.
