On 30 December 1940, an Oxford training plane on a cross-country flight from Ohakea sliced straight through the middle of a two-storey house near Ashhurst, killing the two pilots instantly. Fortunately, the people inside the house, including three adults and four children, were unhurt.
This image is derived from a copy negative made from a photograph that was loaned for copying. The original photographic print is not held by the Ian Matheson City Archives.
