Junior Angling Contest, Centennial Lagoon

Description

The junior angling competition attracted about 280 young anglers to the lagoon. More than 70 fish were caught, including trout, perch, and eels. Contest organisers, The Manawatu-Oroua branch of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, released a dozen 1.5 to 2 kg rainbow trout into the Lagoon the night before the contest. Christine Wright of Palmerston North won the contest for the second year running. She landed a 1.3 kg rainbow trout to take away more than $100 in prizes and the Eric Kilmore Memorial Cup.
