"A new Auckland band, trading under the name of Johnny and the Hookers are to make their Manawatu debut at the Awapuni Hotel this weekend. For the last five months, the group (pictured) have been wowing audiences at Auckland's Windsor Castle and Island of Real.
They have made such an impact that they have been forced to turn fully professional to keep up with the number of offers for gigs. The group comprises Dave McLean (on guitar), Paul Andrew (vocals), Johnny Batchelor (guitar), Mark Page (bass guitar) and Jeff War (drums).
They present a mixed bag musically, ranging from rock and roll to blues, Rhythm and Blues, and a touch of New Wave."
