This view appears in Whalley and Co. “Souvenir of Manawatu Gorge” and is entitled “On the Palmerston-Ashhurst road, near the Gorge”. It is possibly the hill just south of Raukawa Road.

The Foxton railway line was opened as a wooden tramway to Palmerston North, operating 1871–1873. It converted to iron 1875–1876. The line was closed 19 July 1959.
