"Joe Jackson exudes class. With his hair swept back, pale complexion, and the loose fitting trousers which cover his lean frame, Jackson looks like something from the 1930s and 1940s. He claims he is not a rock star, but most of the 3500 or so fans who saw his 150-minute show in the Sports Stadium on Saturday night would disagree.
Jackson and his five band members appeared totally relaxed from the time they appeared on stage. Jackson's band must be one of the few around not featuring a guitarist and what a pleasure it is not to be blitzed by searing solos for a change.
Everything about the Joe Jackson band was laid back. The entire concert was more reminiscent of an intimate lounge bar show that a performance before several thousand people. If Jackson exuded class, so too did his five-piece band, four of whom appeared on his Night and Day album.
Jackson described bassist Graham Maby as the best in the world. After listening and watching him perform, I'm prepared to believe him.
